Banner ads must be GIF format, exactly 468 pixels wide and 60 pixels high.
(No more, no less.)
-
The size of the file may not exceed 15K (15360 bytes).
-
Animated graphics are fine, as long as they stay within the pixels/bytes
specifications above.
-
Transparent graphics are not suggested as their appearance is somewhat
unpredictable.
-
Deliberately misleading banners, such as those with fake user interfaces,
are discouraged.
Frequently
Asked Questions
-
15K? Are you crazy? It's hard to get my banner under 50K much less 15!
15K is very generous, as most large sites restrict your size to 12K
or even smaller. There are many ways to reduce the size of a graphic, animated
or otherwise:
-
Use fewer colors.
-
Don't use anti-aliased text.
-
Eliminate noisy parts of the graphic.
-
For animated graphics, use fewer frames.
-
Some animated graphic packages do not allow you to optimize the graphic;
look for packages that support "interframe transparency optimization."
-
I have a banner that is not the right size. Can it be scaled?
Not really. You will probably want to redo your graphic at the new
size, or have us do it for you. This can take anywhere between 1 and 10
hours depending on how detailed the graphic is, its current size, and whether
or not it is animated.
-
Are your specifications "industry standard?"
Not entirely. We allow 15K graphics where more typical size limits
are 12K and 10K. The dimensions of 468x60 is a nearly universal standard.
If you plan on using your banner ad on other sites, we suggest you design
it to be either 12K or 10K so that you do not have problems with sites
refusing to show it.
