09-05-03  PaxWax: I wonder if this could be the place for those <colores> of less than <godzillionaire> bankroll-capacity. Gasoline @ 16 cents per gallon. Look at FAQ, etc. Yes, it's <Isla Margarita>. And Don Hugo is never far away.

09-05-03  Glutt: K1, IMHO financial market is the biggest casino where much success is based on luck and where knowledge is used to explain this luck… it is big psychological game where many try put educated guess on something but at the end a complete moron can outperform vely smart fund manager…

Read ‘’Liar’s Poker’’ to learn more about how it works… or if you believe vely big brain means big money let me remind you about Long Term Capital Management where two Nobel Prize winners lost nearly trillion... and many US banks lending them had to swallow the pain while Bankers Trust Alex Brown bank went for little money to Deutsche Bank to become one of their capital markets division if my memory is correct.

IMHO financial market is all about guess and fortune and psychology. Of course people confuse research or fund managers for those who know but if you look accurately at the matters you will reckon the main role of both is to sell BS to those who pay. So it is all about gaming and getting higher level of adrenalin in your blood. Of course some scientific element exists and some science exists to explain the matters but market is not about science and development, market is about making money by fooling someone or losing money by fooling itself… IMVVVVVVVVVVVVVHO

09-05-03  Glutt: k1, you are misreading me, i am saying that of retail investors there are considerable number of people who have no slightest idea about investing but for some reason they believe it is possible to earn money without doing your homework first. Otherwise logical assumption tells me that all these amateur went to so called professionals who advised them. If my second assumption is more correct than the whole case is pending big lawsuit form retails against banks and lawyers and Italy and Germany should be warming up to this idea. Why the heck sue ARG which has no money when i can viably sue Tscherman bank who has money? If you don’t agree with this then read my first statement. PS: please note that usually i express my thoughts without desire to piss off anyone, if this happens sometimes my sincere apologies are a must.

As regards retail investors, you know there are the ones like Colores who are very sophisticated in investing but there are number of people like Tyrolean milkmen whose only knowledge about EM is high yield … i can also tell you that there exist a number of low qualified or unqualified morons in small local banks or separately advising on investing to these milkmen … the result of their advises is usually negative, particularly in dramatic circumstances like was with ARG. When speaking about amateurs i surely meant this group which is not so small in case of ARG.

What concerns institutions you right, damn right because financial industry has flaws which are revealed each new day…one of the flaws is obligation of weight in index when someone regulated by the benchmark cannot go sell completely whole ARG or because risk manager is moron to tell his opinion that his friend butcher told him ARG is safe because it exports excellent steaks… or because manager of the bank says he cannot risk mandates and relations with ARG because of one simple stupid research or because it is human nature not to believe in worse in most cases unless comes too late…

09-05-03  k1: <Glutt> still are <US, British, German etc. fundmanager> so amateur and if yes why the heck they buy such bonds as Argentina or Uruguay with no slightest idea about credits? Is this because they saw high yield? Then one has to forbid publishing high yields in a press. >

Remember the beloved Tscherman and Italian <non institutional> bondholders only hold a fraction of the Argentine external debt. The vast majority of debt should be held by the so called institutional investors, run by well trained wellpaid fundmanagers ;-))))

09-05-03  Glutt: as regards Brazil and economic growth i think Brazil might not grow so this year but main danger if next year it does the same then we have a problem, which i somehow do not see now. On bonds i do not see much way from here and reduced substantially. Still Brazil does much better on policy side than it did in the past so i hope Brazil will be rewarded in good sense.

Rating wizards as always do not catch up and most likely will upgrade Brazil very late … it will be funny if at the time of upgrade Brazil will reverse its tide for some misfortunate reason like absent economic growth, i would not exclude such picture. I still do not know why people use rating agencies, and what for? For answers one may have to ask Italians and Germans who still hold ARG bonds. However this nothing new as we know that RATING agencies are MORONS and IMBECILES.

Wally, i know you are actively on probably half a dozen German boards where you lecture people on basics of investment … still i wonder why Lerrick collected only 1.2bn for his ABRA if Germans believe no principal haircut is the only moto in this game? Lerrick is not stupid and he quickly reckoned a formula of no principal haircut will earn him. His another idea of discrimination is very tricky and questionable but in longer run no one will even remember this trick. From my personal see of him i got impression he is amazingly clever and tough guy. still are German bondholders so amateur and if yes why the heck they buy such bonds as Argentina or Uruguay with no slightest idea about credits? Is this because they saw high yield? Then one has to forbid publishing high yields in a press.

09-04-03  moneypenny: Oh.

09-04-03  Goldbug: Bond: "What do you know about gold, Moneypenny?" Moneypenny: "Oh, the only gold I know about is the kind you wear. You know, on the 3rd finger of your left hand?"

<from the movie "Goldfinger">

09-04-03  Goldbug: Funny how both gold and the stock market are having a rally at the same time. One of them will lose their legs soon. My bet is the stocks will drop and gold will keep on going.

09-04-03  Cheetah: money penny...i miss you so...

y tú aun no lo sabes

yo te quiero tanto,

tierra de mi alma.

quiero tus riberas

tus montes y valles

tus ojillos tristes

llenos de pesares.

...

09-04-03  moneypenny: Something for Wally....

http://www.thescotsman.co.uk/intern...

<AN EXTRAORDINARY 19th- century plot by German nobility to take over Texas and turn it into a German country has been uncovered by a historian looking through old records of some of Germany’s oldest families.>

Deep down, the Tschermanns really vant to be cowboys! :-)))

09-04-03  Cheetah: so now wally...you should buy the best of Joan manuel Serrat...

but the best is not Galicia...it's Caminante no hay Camino, se hace Camino al Andar, al Andar se hace Camino y al volver la vista atras se ve el Camino que no ha de volverse a caminar...Caminante no hay Camino sino Estelas en la Mar...

fantastic !!!

09-04-03  SPAL: <09-04-03 carib: VRSO closed above 5$. Thanks SPAL. Time for divorce after the 300% gain?> you are the timimg master!! ... I would look at SONS as an indicator IF SONS continues up then VRSO should maintain the same ratio of value ... the tech rally looks like continuing ... also pay attention to NT ... this is provide a signal on broad scale equipment purchase of IP switching equipment ... if SONS pauses and NT is still OK then you are probably still OK. Set your sights on $10 by year end.

09-04-03  carib: VRSO closed above 5$. Thanks SPAL. Time for divorce after the 300% gain?

09-04-03  carib: Victorn, I know, I wanted to type <I am in the hiberic peninsula> but the finger slipped to <5 am>...maybe because it's late (but here in Portugal still 00:40)...

09-04-03  ruspan: Victorn, I dont know Pax's prespective on it. Mine is that I would love my children to study also Bable at school, and beautiful local literature - but not to form them on any local language on which the whole scientific knoledge of the humanity whould never be translated (and on most of them, even the basic school course was translated only recently and with a dubious cuality) Are you doing such a thing to your children in order to scerw Madrid ? :-)

09-04-03  victorn: carib, 1:40 am in spain right now. Let's see if next year there is some growth in brazil. Otherwise, paying all that public debt might be more difficult.

09-04-03  carib: Victorn: Brasil is in recession. I hope to see growth next year.btw 5 am in the hiberic peninsula right now, not in brasil

09-04-03  victorn: ruspan, so paxy's problem with gallego is that his children are wasting their time learning this language in school? now i understand. From paxy's perspective gallego should be optional. How about making spanish optional and gallego required? Or how about prohibiting spanish in classrooms, as they are proposing in california? :-)

Of course, trying to make people in these regions understand that their language is simply "not worth it" is not an easy task to accomplish. Of course, if madrid gets taxes back to the 5-15% level, we can all agree to a spanish-only spain, and love madrid. No ploblem. I think that this is strictly an economic issue. :-)

09-04-03  ruspan: Victorn:<paxy, how do you feel about the english-only initiative in california?> Tss... victorn, I believe his boys are forced to study on Galego, so he is probably completely agree :-)

09-04-03  ruspan: Hey Pax, you're touching some sensitive fibers with Rosalia... Close to my uncestors land and close to their language :-) I love bable, but still have no idea on how to preserve those beauties without getting idiotic. Looks like few people know it.

09-04-03  victorn: paxy, how do you feel about the english-only initiative in california?

09-04-03  victorn: wally appears to be a fan of july churches. :-)

09-04-03  victorn: carib, so what's the story with brazil? now car sales down significantly. People keep saying it's going to grow significantly, but my question is: when? third quarter?

quiero tus riberas

tus montes y valles

tus ojillos tristes

llenos de pesares.

un canto a Galicia, hey,

tierra de mi padre.

un canto a Galicia, hey,

que es mi tierra madre<<<>>>

09-04-03  wally: <Have you ever seen a movie in Gallego> no <pax>. my knowledge of gallego is limited to the text of "un canto a Galicia", Julio Iglesias, early 70s :~))

09-04-03  PaxWax: <<wally>: why don't i have difficulties understanding gallego?> Have you ever seen a movie in Gallego, with no subtitles or anything? It's radically different from the artificial, committee-created Galego of the television news. I'd be happy to send you a videotape and put you to the test. (:-)))

I'll agree that it's easier than Hungarian or Estonian.

09-04-03  wally: <pax <The dialects have become rather different in the intervening centuries>> really? then why don't i have difficulties understanding gallego?

09-04-03  Advice55: TCP, market is not ready for good news, market is too short on the stock to take any good news and needle is there....

Boa noite!

09-04-03  amigo latino: <Fox: <Italian & German retail Investors> This is sad, very sad, if we get burned with a Bond (as we did), Ok no problem we deserve it!! But these guys probably bought this stuff thinking it carried the same risk German or Italian debt has…..>

That is the cause of action. Whoever led the unsophisticated investors to believe that <this stuff carried the same risk German or Italian debt has> or failed to clarify that <this stuff carried much higher risk than the German or Italian stuff> should pay some compensation voulntarily or under pressure from the Italian or German governments .
