does u.s. policy shift have anything to do with the coming elections in the usa?JERUSALEM, April 15 - In a moment of diplomatic brinkmanship, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon considered canceling his planned trip to Washington this week for fear that President Bush would not give him the diplomatic guarantees he wanted in exchange for his plan to withdraw settlers from the Gaza Strip.
But on Thursday, as Mr. Sharon flew back to Israel, the Palestinian leadership reeled from the shifts in American policy on the Middle East that President Bush announced in Mr. Sharon's company on Wednesday. Mr. Sharon's advisers predicted that he would now get the domestic support he needed to push ahead with his Gaza plan.

Victorn: sometimes it's hard to get the point across....a broker has per se nothing to do with <taxes> if he is just trading for you. You can buy a bond with a broker sitting in hong kong, via a credit line with a bank in london, and book the trade on a BVI company banking in switzerland. If you do the same with a broker sitting in NYC...that does not change anything concerning W8s and capital gains.

is <islamism> the same as <islamist>? my u.s. dictionary has the same entry for both islamism and islamist, which has the definition: "Main Entry: Islamism. the faith, doctrine, or cause of Islam. Islamist /-mist/ noun".but according to my spanish dictionary there are two different entries with different definitions: <islamismo. (De islam). Conjunto de dogmas y preceptos morales que constituyen la religión de Mahoma> and <islamista. 1. adj. Perteneciente o relativo al integrismo musulmán>.
so which one is it?
04-15-04
victorn:
so why does <islamist> exist in the dictionary while <christianist> does not?
04-15-04
victorn:
carib <but this has nothing to do with <brokers>, rather with <custodians>> not if you need to trade once in a while, and the fast execution is important.

<carib: <Islamism is an ideology which maintains that Islam is not only a religion, but a system that also governs the politicial, economic and social imperatives of the State>>oops! stupid me! i forgot that this kind of worldwide accepted scientific expression is derived from the book "Those abominable Islamists" written by the famous and renowned scientist -as far as <Islamism and Wahhabism> is concerned- Chaim Faijnstain and his co-authors Sarah Rozenzwaig and Moishe Grünspan.

<carib> there is no such thing or a word like <islamist>. neither is there the expression <hinduist>, nor <christianist>, nor <jewist> or <buddhistist>. these expresssions are invented by low-level <bug-crushers> who have no education, no shame and no honour.X minus 24 days!

<While Islamists have many goals, the ultimate one is establishing a worldwide Caliphate (Islamic state): to overthrow and destroy democratic governments accross the globe and replace them with a single Taliban-style Islamic fundamentalist theocracy. There would be one all-powerful head of state, the Caliph. Individuals would be governed by strict Shariah Law, religion would be for Allah alone, and personal liberty limited by Islamic jurisprudence.>

carib <communications between offshore banks in certain jurisdictions and the IRS actually work> so it requires receiving this income in an offshore acct? then it would not be applicable in my case. for a number of reasons i prefer to use u.s. brokers for transactions that would involve such cap gains, and dividends once in a while. this is apart from my blonds, which are not in the usa.

carib:
<Islamism is an ideology which maintains that Islam is not only a religion, but a system that also governs the politicial, economic and social imperatives of the State.A crucial goal of Islamists is that they take control of the State, to be able to implement this system. As such, we find most Islamist rhetoric and literature comparing Islam not with other religions, but with other ideologies, such as Nationalism, Communism, Capitalism, Fascism, etc.In the aftermath of 9/11, Islamism, along with other political movements inspired by Islam, gained increased attention in the Western media. The media often confuses the term Islamism with related terms such as Islam, fundamentalism, militant Islam, and Wahhabism. Although the groups and individuals representing them are not mutually exclusive, within academia, each term does have a distinct definition. Some Islamist groups have been implicated in terrorism and have become targets in the War on Terrorism.
Islamofascism, is an associated pejorative term.>

carib:
Wally, no that was Stratford. We had a discussion on the difference between <islamist> and <islamic> two years ago, and I thought the matter was cleared.

carib:
Vic: precisely; But anybody inquiring how exactly communications between offshore banks in certain jurisdictions and the IRS actually work can find solutions...unless, of course, he is a <US person>. The point is that the US is NOT acting a global tax policeman, but only goes after <Us persons>. This might be right or wrong, and might change in the future...but not yet.

< carib: <John Kerry... has shrewdly chosen to call neither for a withdrawal from Iraq nor for an end to the war on the Islamist world?>>war on the <Islamist world>? what is the definition of <Islamist world>? what f@cking moron has used/created these words? is the pseudo-jew <oozing _maniac> perhaps involved? can't be! even his degenerated brain cells are not able to invent some shit like <Islamist world>!

pana, plan colombia was established before uribito and the idea was (and still is) to try to control veni from col. strategically, col is the most important s american country for the usa. col is the honduras of south america.

carib, but you said that you found a way to do it without a w8. sure, that's even better.
04-15-04
victorn:
carib, from a short term econ perspective that is true. but not if the price to pay is to be a resident of one of those countries, which means that your govt shares your local tax info with the usa, at least in theory. i don't think so. i prefer the current situation much better. besides some of those countries that have tax treaties w/ the usa have a socialistic tendency with respect to taxes. they usually want to tax you to death one way or another.

<victorn: i read and thought about that last night. well, there has always been tension between the two, so that's nothing new> do you think Uribe will be the instrument used by GNoE to tap down Pinky as declared by Rangel or plain BS?

carib:
<John Kerry... has shrewdly chosen to call neither
for a withdrawal from Iraq nor for an end to the war on the
Islamist world. Kerry's enormous advantage is that he can
articulate a strategy without having to take responsibility for
anything in the past. He can therefore argue that Bush's impulses
were correct, but that he lacked a systematic strategy>
Good observation.

the interesting part about amigo's comments about dr is that they are 99.9% negative. amigo probably agrees with alex. the difference is that alex doesn't live there while amigo does, in spite of probably having the option of living in the usa. which leads me to conclude how much amigo likes the dr, in spite of all its problems.

Amigo: in Italy, most likely, 99% of the people sooner or later break some laws. But this does not happen because italians=ladrones...but rather because there are too many stupid laws.
Concerning misappropropriating government money...if ALL do it...the majority ends up losing: for every fellow who gets more than he should, there is another one who gets less...
so everybody believes he is very clever..but in most cases he is actually quite stupid. Thiefs by definition only profit if they are a small minority...and far from stupid.
Stealing usually decreases the size of the cake, rather than increasing it. Look at Argy.

victorn:
carib <you pay 30% on dividends> yes, i know. but it doesn't affect me, as i receive very little $ in dividends. my real concern in this case is cap gains.

amigo latino:
<Carib: … But if <todos ladrones> …..> Carib, in DR <ladrones > is used colloquially for those who indulge in corruption or get benefits from the govt in various ways ( legal or otherwise: getting a site for a house, agricultural land, apt, a motor cycle, a bus , a taxi, a pension, a job, an extra salary, an exoneration from paying customs duties on car, a license for a gas station, etc.) or in general who bends the rules,…..in addition to people who steal( In DR street crime is not high)
Ladronazo refers(in DR) to a person who strikea hard bargains, etc
<But if <todos ladrones> was true…..>: Note: I said “Todos somos ladrones =: <we> are all ladrones…..>
In DR, if one gives an impression of rectitude, people do not share information…. Many do(or are forced to do) things that may not fall under strict rule of law, or have family members, relatives and friends who do such things. A good way to mix with people and obtain some inf is to let people know that you are one of them and is not about to judge them.
04-15-04
carib:
Vic: it depends on personal circumstances...But if you have <never been a resident of a so called civilized country>you cannot use the tax treaty with the said country, and thus pay 30%. If you only reside in a tax haven...you pay 30% on dividends. Again, it's a complex matter.
04-15-04

carib that's a bad excuse for a nation that pretends to act on morale grounds, and all these great principles about freedom, etc. and then they expect others to buy into this BS.

carib, re rat example. so why has the u.s. been militarily involved in so many places around the world? who gave the u.s. the right to <chew> into the affairs of other nations, long before 9/11?

carib:
Wally: <bug crushing> is mostly <financed> by printing Dollars. If you stop owning Dollars, you might stop your personal contribution to the said <financing>.
04-15-04
victorn:
carib <without your poersonal data going to the IRS> this is one of the few advantages of someone who has never been a resident of a so-called civilized country, and has always been a resident of an almost unknown so-called uncivilized country. who cares if personal data goes to the irs?
04-15-04
carib:
Vic: the US government just changed the rule on dividends.
But anyway consider that the vast majority of investors do pay capital gain tax and tax on interest income, so the calculation is more complicated. But it's quite true that until the dividend tax is not reduced, it's a bad idea to pay dividends.

pilly <04-15-04 PILLZ: <you do it via the w8 form, which allows you to optionally specify the tax treaty country. > :-))> what is funny or good about this?? i fail to understand why the u.s. has 0% cap gains & bond income, but 30% dividend tax w/o treaty. i consider it irrational, it should also be 0%. let's say that a co has a market value of $100, and is considering paying $1 dividend. a) if the co doesn't pay it, the price remains at $100. b) if it pays it, price drops to $99. in a) i have $1 additional in cap gains compared to b), but my extra dollar is not taxed. in b) i have $1 additional cash before taxes (which is reduced to 70 cents after tax) and $1 less in cap gains. bad deal. i fail to understand why cos simply don't follow buffett's advice and pay $0 in dividends, or the stupid govt change its tax rules on dividends.
04-15-04
carib:
Pill: the interesting thing is that there is a way to do that without actrually filling a W8 (I did not) and still benefitting from the tax treaty...without your poersonal data going to the IRS. :-)

Vic: two days ago some rats, that decided to settle in a space under the ceiling of my dining room, proceed to chew into a wire, and cut my light off. Today I got a carpenter, and we fixed the problem leaving those rodents homeless. some poison will take care of exterminating the vermin. Now, from the point of view of the rats, they were illegally expelled from their residence, and treacherously poisoned. I can see their point of view, but I am uninterested in <negotiating> with them.
04-15-04

<you do it via the w8 form> today i was stupid enough to make the usual advance income tax payment to the IRS for the first fiscal quarter. my only consolation is that in future not a single copper penny of mine will be used to finance <bug-crushers>!
