The All-New BradyNet FORUM
Hints, Guidelines, & Frequently Asked Questions

If you don't read anything else, read this:
BradyNet's FORUM is a medium through which market participants can discuss different topics related to Emerging Market debt instruments. It is divided into topics which can be countries, regions, products, and more. Users may post articles under these topics. Users may also post replies to articles; these replies appear in a column which runs along the side of the original article.

BradyNet FORUM can be read by anybody with internet access; however, you need to get an account in order to post articles or replies to articles. Getting an account is easy and free--click here to become a BradyNet member!

What is BradyNet FORUM?

BradyNet's Brady Bond FORUM is a medium through which market participants can discuss different topics related to Emerging Market debt instruments.

BradyNet FORUM will become what we all make of it. Please maintain a community spirit so that we may all enrich our experiences as participants in this exciting market!

What happened to the old FORUM?

The old FORUM, while highly popular, has been massively upgraded. The new software is easier to use, fosters a community environment, and is generally more robust.

To preserve continuity, messages from the old system have been ported over. (However, some messages have been more appropriately catagorized in consideration of the many new discussion topics available.)

Who can use the new BradyNet FORUM?

Anybody can read messages on the BradyNet FORUM. However, you must become a BradyNet Member in order to post. Becoming a BradyNet Member is 100% free, anonymous, and only takes a minute. Please see our Registration Page and the friendly Regsitration Wizard will guide you through the process.

What's a handle?

A "handle" is a name which BradyNet Members use to identify themselves in their posts and replies. We make no requirements of what your handle can be. Some users protect their anonymity by making a handle which could not be associated with their true identity; others choose to use their full name. When you register you will be given a choice of handles.

What's a profile?

A profile is a description of yourself which you enter into the BradyNet system. If you already have a BradyNet account, you can setup your own profile here. If you don't have an account, you'll have to register first. This way you have the option of letting other BradyNetters know more information about yourself, including an email address for contacts.

Because BradyNet FORUM is 100% anonymous, setting up a profile is completely optional.

When you see a user's name, you can click on it to view their profile. (Note: Some of the older messages on the system will not be linked, or be linked directly to an email address, because these messages were posted before the profile system was in place.)

What messages are appropriate for BradyNet FORUM?

Anything that would be of interest to BradyNet users is appropriate in the BradyNet FORUM. This might include questions regarding Brady bonds, discussions of market trends, finding your way around BradyNet, etc.

What messages are not appropriate?

  1. Spamming (posting the same message on multiple boards, regardless of the content of the message.)
  2. Profane or abusive language
  3. Personal attacks directed at specific users
  4. Anything prohibited by United States law
  5. Encoded or encrypted binary files
  6. Blatant advertising

Where should I post my article?

If you have a comment about something you have already read on BradyNet FORUM, you really want to post a reply rather than starting a new article.

If you have a question to present to the group, or some information which you think other users might find of value, you should post a new article. However, you must take the time to find the best topic under which to post.

E.g., an analysis of Brazilian Brady bonds would be best in the category "Brazil." If you refer to a country which does not have its own topic, use one of the regions. E.g., Africa or Asia encompass many countries which do not have their own groups.

Can I Advertise on BradyNet FORUM?

No.

You can advertise your ideas but you cannot advertise your product or service. For example, you cannot say "I am looking to buy/sell bond (X). Anyone interested?" That could fall under the definition of an exchange which is regulated by the S.E.C.

Some of these messages go back years. Where's the new stuff?

You are right--BradyNet FORUM does not remove old articles, and so some of the earliest messages date back to 1996. However, we also try to make it easy for you to find the recent postings. To find the new articles, and the older articles that are generating responses, see our What's New Page.

Can I put <HTML> tags in my posts?

No. They are screened out automatically. However, if you include an URL in the form of http://www.website.com/ it will automatically become a hyperlink, so feel free to link to other resources on the Net which you think might be of interest to BradyNet FORUM participants.

I have a suggestion for a topic.

Great! We'd love to hear from you. Please email us at bradynet@bradynet.com

Why didn't my post show up?

Your post most likely did not show on your browser because your browser did not reload the page: it is showing you the old version of the page. Please reload your browser (press the reload button) and it should then appear. If that doesn't work, try pressing shift & reload at the same time.

What is the Color of the Market?

Among the thousands of messages posted to the BradyNet Forum, one discussion stands out from the crowd. The Color of the Market has been providing the public with timely Emerging Market news since 1996. It is one of the few articles where the body of the article can change on a regular basis, providing fresh discussion topics to a small but loyal crowd which frequents the area. For your convenience, a special URL is provided which will always take you to the most recent page of Color fo the Market discussion:
http://www.bradynet.com/color.html

Why do I sometimes see colored text in replies?

When posting a reply to an article, you may choose to quote part of the article (or another reply) by enclosing them between < and > characters. When you do this, the color will automatically turn gold.

Example:

Shon Ka: When Veronica wrote <I think the place to invest is Veni, the results wont be seeing for at least 90 days.> she couldn't have been more right.

If the quote itself contains a quote, the innermost quote will be rendered in gold, as above, but the enclosing quote will appear in maroon. Example:

Freddy: Shon Ka, what makes you say this: <When Veronica wrote <I think the place to invest is Veni, the results wont be seeing for at least 90 days.> she couldn't have been more right.> ? Veni is off over 5% over the last 90 days.
If there are more than two levels of quotes, the colors will continue to change, rotating through the spectrum. Some users have discovered that you can do this intentionally, just to create pretty rainbows in your posts. The novelty of this wears off quickly, but if you really want to know how it's done here is an example:
Elmo: Don't mind me, I'm just having fun with colors...
<olive <green <teal <blue <purple <violet <maroon <gold>>>>>>>>
Note that the colored text feature only applies to replies and not to the main article.
