Free Cuba Day

I. OVERVIEW

A. Theme & Purpose for "Free Cuba Day" - Wednesday, March 23, 2005. The event is to be officially referred to as "Free Cuba Day: Florida's Solidarity with the Freedom-seeking People of Cuba". The purpose is to inform the Florida legislators as to the human rights situation in Cuba today, and to encourage their Solidarity with the Freedom-seeking People of Cuba. The goal is for this to become an Annual Event of the Hispanic Caucus - growing in size, importance, and public impact.

B. Activities (approx. 8am to 5pm continuous) 1. First floor of the Capitol Rotunda: consisting of large impact exhibits depicting various aspects of the violations of human rights in Cuba today... with graphic visual displays, photos & professional signage. Some items that may be on display: large "Cuban Freedom Quilt", an authentic Refugee Raft, a jail cell reproduction in exact dimensions, typewriter/fax/laptop as items that result in jail sentence in Cuba, etc. The topic of human rights is to be presented in a "generic" approach, without crediting any particular Cuban-American or exile organization as being responsible for the Ground Floor activities. 2. Second floor of the Capitol Rotunda: consisting of booth-type presentations/exhibits by various Cuban exile organizations (Bibliotecas Independientes de Cuba, M.A.R. por Cuba, Plantados hasta la Libertad en Cuba, Comite Pro Derechos Humanos de los Niños, Fundacion Nacional Cubano-Americana) in the areas of human rights, professional, political or cultural emphasis. Each organization, within its booth, may display sign with its name, distribute handouts, and have representatives to explain their message to those who pass by
