Mexican Peso Update
|
|
The Mexican peso continued its sluggish tone today, not breaking the (psychological) 7.605 level and not going over its July 8 (and 1996) high of 7.67-69. We see the situation aggravating due to week-end pressures and a sluggish Bolsa. Cetes remained calm as the market continues to digest Banxico's P$5.1 billion injection of credits yesterday (Wednesday). Look for further weakness in the peso before convincingly crossing the 7.605 area to 7.57-58. For our more aggressive hedge fund players we are recommending purchase of the back months on weakness and in the expectations that real rates in Mexico have some room to fall further. This will tighten the spreads and correctly price the March '97 and June '97 peso contracts to more realistic levels. We are seeing some activity by some traders in the December 1100 Puts (market today was tight .14 X .19 50-up on either side). This seems fairly valued based on volatility increasing in the later part of the month. Overall, however, we believe the situation in Mexico to be the better of the 3 main Latam countries so we would look for opportunities in the currency. --Philip Ruffat Sakura Dellsher, Inc. Contact your local BANAMEX (Banco Nacional de Mexico) and they should be able to (1) Suggest where or how to exchange your old pesos or (2) They will exchange your old pesos for new pesos or U.S. currency, on the spot.

The 1989 2000 peso is worth a whopping 22 cents US Dollars. People are buying it on the internet for less than $3 each. I was excited when I found one too, only to be sadly dissapointed.

I really don't have a reply to this. My son was given an old $10,000 peso bill and a purse full of old peso coins. They are Mexican pesos, and he would like to exchange them for American dollars. Where are some places that I can do this for him? Someone please help. We live in a small town and cannot find a bank that will do this for us.

Hello Everyone...
I have the same boring question thats been asked (maybe asked, anywayz...) before... Value or aprox. value regarding the Mexican Peso. I don't actually mean exchange rates. I mean the actual value of the coins themself from a coin collector. Here's what I have:
{*} $20 GULTURA MAYA 1981 A (on front of coin) Is a very large silver coin - ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS (on backside of coin). {*} $20 1885 - Is a very small thick silver coin. {*} $50 1884 - Is a small thick silver coin. {*} 2= $100 1982 & 1989 - Is a medium size & very thick silver coin. {*} $500 1955 - Is a medium size & very thick silver coin. {*} $5000 1988 CINCUENTENARIO 1938-1988 EXPROPIACION PETROLERA (on front of coin)It is a large size & very thick silver coin. {*} UN PESO 1971 Medium size & thin silver coin.(there is no amount on this coin). If u know of any/all or where I can go to get any/all value/appraisal information regarding these above coins then please email me at: PonyExpressUSA@gmail.com
Thank you for ur time! Angela

Old Mexican pesos can be exchanged at currency exchange centers in Mexico for their equivalent amount in the new currency. ie 2000 pesos old for 2000 pesos new. This according to the Banco de Mexico website. Here's what their site says:Domestic Currency Exchange Centers have been established in 563 commercial bank offices of 208 locations throughout the country. The operation of the exchange centers is regulated by the rules that were published in the Official Journal of the Federation on January 25, 1996. Any person may attend the exchange centers to ask for the following services:
* Exchange of national banknotes or coins for others of different denomination.
* Valuation of damaged banknotes (incomplete, taped, stamped or soiled banknotes).
* Exchange of demonetized currency by its equivalent amount with legal tender banknotes or coins.

I have a 1964 Mexican coin that I am wondering the worth of. It is about the size of a silver dollar and says "Un Peso 1964...Estados Unides Mexicanos" on one side and has the picture of what appears to be a Conquistidor on the other. Around the edge is written something like Industria et Libertae.

I know your note is quite old and you may already have answers on your questions. I am mexican and i want to tell you that it is completely true that after 1991 our courren cy "changed" president Salinas, ordered to take 3 zeros from normal prices so what was 10,000 pesos are now 10.00 and its value is 1 dollar! We don´t have 500 pesos coins any more 500 pesos are .50 cents now a days which are aobur 5 american cents. So i think that waht you have has no value anymore! sorry

Where would you exchange pesos that are no longer in circulation? Are they of any value at all. I just called a local bank to inquire about the worth of a 2000 peso bill that we found. I was told that the Mexican government took that bill out of circulation, and it has been devalued 1000 times. Which means that it is only worth 2 pesos. I looked up the exchange rate, and if it had been 2000 pesos, it would have been $215 or so. However, at this time, it's only worth 22 cents! Aw man - I thought we were gonna be rich!! Hehehe....http://www.kray257.simplenet.com/
